specs(no cracks in turbine housing past wastegate flapper door), even if your cores are bad, I've found it fairly easy to obtain good sets of cores for around $100. So, IMO, the concern for the cores "going bad" should be taken out of the equation. Typically, the cracks develop as more a function of heat than time, so if you are trying to figure out if they might be cracked, have you run a bunch of boost repeatedly or some other situation that would create alot of heat (ie. alot of timing, lean condition, etc. )? The timing of the upgrade should be your call...if you are itching for the sport 500s now, and the labor is no big deal, go for it. If your main concern is the cracking of the housings and you want to pull the turbos out to save them, I'd just wait until you do the engine rebuild. I hate it when people tell me what to do, but you asked, so it's just my .02$. BTW I also have the sport 500s, am going to do an engine rebuild in the next month or so (courtesy of Specialtyz), and plan on keeping the sport 500s, they are such an all around good turbo (for my tastes). I hope that directly addressed your concerns. Take care, Mark
